Illustrator-   Create technical and nontechnical drawings for printed materials, commercial products, and digital media, usually to represent ideas, concepts, or stories. Sometimes they design for textbook-printed materials, and sometimes they illustrate for greeting cards, calendars, wrapping paper, etc.

Production Artist- Makes things appealing and create labels for products; one of the first steps in graphic designing (to support designers); the entry level of graphic design
Education- Certificate program or Associate's degree in fine arts or graphic design
Starting salary/salary- $50,000-70,000


Graphic Designer- Assembles and creates a visual for what a client is trying to say and help convey a message; second level of a graphic design career
Skills- design softwares, visual communications, creativity
Education- bachelor degree, visual art classes, helpful foreign language
Minimum/entry Salary- $26,000 or less


Art Director- Come up with visual concepts and designs, and presentation appropriation; the next level after graphic designer
Work with billboards, magazine layouts, advertisements, videos, websites, newspapers, and visual communications
Education- 4 year bachelor degree, several years of work experience in related fields; degrees in fine arts, design, or visual communication or digital media
Salary- Junior $25,000-55,000; senior $35,000-120,000


Web Designer- Design websites for companies, working with the client to create an appropriate look for the website
Education- 4 year bachelor's degree in a graphic design field
Helpful skills- background in graphic design and computers, ability to use graphic design software 
Salary- $45,000-81,000


Package Designer- Design packages of containers for products
Education- bachelor's degree in industrial design or a similar field
Salary- $33,000-75,000


Comic Book Artist- Someone who is involved in any step in creating a comic book or comic strip
Education- Don't need an art degree, but someone who can draw figures in action and detailed backgrounds and buildings
Salary- $12,000-50,000


Computer Animation- Use 2D and 3D computer graphics to create movement
Education- Bachelors degree in a related field to animation, and experience 
Helpful Skills- Computer skills, graphic design; work well with other people and clients
Salary- $32,000-99,000


Publication Designer- Designs magazines, designs the layout and content of any published materials (mostly magazines)
Education- Bachelors degree in any graphic design field; educated in typography, color principles, and layout design, as well as with software
Salary- $23,000-85,000


Freelance Designer- An artist that works without dedication to a long-term employer; no specific company
Education- high school or college education, not required to have any art degrees; anyone can do it if you have a knack for design
Salary- $57,000; usually pay by the hour ($50-60/hour)


Storyboard Artist- A beginner job; makes sketches for movies and production agencies; work with film and movie production. Help bring ideas together into one picture
Education- Bachelors degree, background classes in drawing, film, visual arts
Salary- $25,000-80,000
Where- Work in studios, offices, independent/freelance


Creative Director- The level of employment above art director, more of a manager. They no longer design. Meet with clients, design pitches, help with critique, more office and managerial 
Education- Degree within the graphic design field, 7-10 years of experience
Salary- $70,000 or 80,000, up to $150,000+


American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA)- Represent designers and others that partake in graphic design; support designers by helping students publish portfolios, offer jobs, publications on design, promote the importance of design *very helpful


Printing and Imaging Association of Georgia (PIAG)- Organization that represents big printing resources for educational purposes f0r business and schools; supports printing industry, push a lot in the curriculum

Society of Publication Designers (SPD)- Established in 1965, represents art directors, designers, photo editors, publication editors, and graphic editors etc. Help with portfolio, and can enter work in competitions; exposes students to colleges and careers


Copywriter- Write copies for the purpose of marketing and advertising, work as a team with art directors, sometimes directly with clients; associate/associate creative director after promoted
Education- Liberal arts or anything in a related field
Salary- $37,000-45,000, cap of $70,000


Portrait Photographer- Take pictures of individuals or groups at a studio or on location
Education- Degree in photography, or even just basic knowledge
Salary- $26,000-63,000


Documentary Photographer- Takes pictures of historical events/wars/monuments 
Skills- discipline, organization, ability to work in various conditions
Education- bachelors degree
Salary- $28,000-75,000
Companies- National Geographic


Advertising Photographer- Commercial photographer takes pictures of various subjects for promotional materials in movies, commercials, billboards, advertisements, work with film or digital media
Education- Degree in photographer, but you do not need college education; need skill
Salary- Minimum: $47,000, into $200,000+ because of the versatility of the job in general


Editorial Photographer- Taking pictures for newspapers or magazines that help convey what the text is saying in an article, mainly politics
Education- Do not need a degree, but high school diploma recommended, need skill
Salary- $25,000-55,000


Fashion Photographer- Represents the work of fashion designers to the public, hire to produce photos used for advertising or marketing of fashion products
Skills- work with models and make them comfortable, able to work with lights, backdrops, make the product look good, strong ability to capture and set a mood
Education- Artistic ability, knowledge in photo applications
Salary- $50,000-100,000+


Photo Journalist- To provide pictures for stories for news articles
Education- Bachelors degree in photography, minor or corresponding with journalism
Where- Newspaper or printing publications
Salary- $15,000-50,000


American Photographic Artists (APA)- Promotes and run by photographers, offers benefits like health and business insurance, can help portfolio


Professional Photographers of America (PPA)- Helps its members advance their careers in photography; Mission statement: To create a vibrant community of successful professional photographers by providing education, resources, and industry standards; helps members seek job opportunities because it opens them up to many things that they would not have access to without a membership


Sports Photographer- Capture live/action images; travel with sports teams and take action and event photos or work in studios
Education- bachelors degree with concentration in photography assist experienced photographers
Salary- $24,000+


National Association of Photoshop Professionals (Users) (NAPP)- Organization in photoshop industry that helps its members with magazines, portraits, etc. Gives discounts for certain brands, there to show tricks, step-by-step tutorials, and how-to articles


National Press Photographers Association (NPPA)- An association of photojournalists that work to advance their careers in, and support others in, photography and multimedia/video careers; provide workshops and job banks, publish in the News Photography magazine *Specific to photojournalism
